Luis Gutiérrez, reviewer of Spanish wines for Wine Advocate (Robert Parker), has published his latest report on Catalan wines, once again placing LaFou Celler among the standout wineries of Terra Alta.
Among the highest-rated wines is LaFou de Rams 2021, awarded 94+ points, further improving on the recognition already achieved by the 2020 vintage, which received 94 points. With this score, it becomes the highest-rated wine from Terra Alta in this report. Gutiérrez describes it as made from pure Garnacha Blanca grown on limestone soils with fossil dunes, from a vineyard known to exist since 1966 and currently transitioning to organic farming. He particularly highlights its complexity and precision, describing it as “complex and nuanced, with freshness and balance” and also “varietal, clean, complex and nuanced”. The critic also underlines the singularity of the winemaking process, which includes part of a solera of skin-contact white wines started in 2016.
Also standing out is LaFou de Batea 2021, with 93 points. The critic describes it as “serious, powerful, fresh and balanced”, a nuanced Mediterranean blend based mainly on Garnacha and Cariñena, and considers it “one of the finest vintages for this bottling”.
The selection is completed by LaFou Els Amelers 2024, with 92 points, praised for being “very clean and precise, fresh and balanced”, with an “elegant and subtle nose”; and LaFou El Sender 2022, with 91 points, described as “ripe and Mediterranean”, with notes of “wild berries, herbs and flowers”, and a palate that is “round and lush” with good freshness.
