Within the framework of Barcelona Wine Week 2026 and in line with the thematic axis “the human factor, the legacy to preserve”, LaFou Celler took part in the masterclass “From family legacy to a distinctive identity”, a unique tasting led by three top-level winemakers and featuring a selection of reference wines that offered a deeper look into how family wineries turn inherited heritage into a personal, contemporary vision.
Moderated by Ruth Troyano, the session offered a journey across three territories —Terra Alta, Jerez and La Rioja— with Ramon Roqueta (LaFou Celler), Eduardo Eguren (Cuentaviñas) and Willy Pérez (Bodegas Luis Pérez and Bodegas de la Riva), exploring what is preserved from previous generations and how a distinctive identity is built from landscape, soils and grape varieties.
The conversation centred on a return to essentials: respect for the vineyard, origin and tradition, alongside the need to reinterpret them with one’s own criteria in today’s context. It also highlighted the current generation’s commitment to conscious viticulture —enhancing the landscape and caring for soils—, minimal-intervention winemaking, and the drive to craft authentic, single-parcel wines that are faithful to place. Finally, the discussion addressed the weight of surnames and legacy (as both a driving force and, at times, a demand), how to reach consumers beyond fashions and trends, and the transfer of knowledge between generations.
The wines selected for this unique tasting were: San Cayetano 2023 (Luis Pérez), LaFou de Rams 2020 (LaFou Celler), Septeno 2023 (Cuentaviñas), LaFou de Batea 2016 (LaFou Celler), Los Yelsones 2023 (Cuentaviñas) and Caverrubia (Luis Pérez).
